CAD ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

 

Come and join us for CAD Annual General Meeting at 7 pm at Deaf & Hear Alberta basement. We may have positions on the Executive Board of CAD available for nomination at the AGM. Please see below  to review the positions and consider joining our board for the next two years term – Sept 1, 2019 to August 31, 2021.  Light refreshments will be provided. With the upcoming AGM taking place on June 4th, 2019, it is time to start considering whether you would like to run for a position on the board, for the 2 years term commencing September 1st, 2019 until August 31st, 2021.  The following positions may be available for consideration.  The vacant positions will be confirmed and announced at the AGM:

Board of Directors Roles

President Position

  1. Is a member of the Board
    2. Serves as the President of the organization)
    3. Provides leadership to the Board of Directors, who sets out policy and procedures with directions.
  2. Chairs meetings of the Board after developing the agenda.
    5. Encourages Board’s role in strategic planning
    6. Appoints the chairpersons of committees, in consultation with other Board members.
    7. Serves ex officioas a member of committees and attends their meetings when invited.
    8. Discusses issues confronting the organization with the board.
    9. Helps guide and mediate Board actions with respect to organizational priorities and governance concerns.
    10. Monitors financial planning and financial reports.
    11. Plays a leading role in fundraising activities
    12. Evaluates annually the performance of the organization in achieving its mission.
    13. Performs other responsibilities assigned by the Board.

Prerequisite:  Must have two years experience on the executive board.

Vice President Position

  1. Is a member of the Board
    2. Performs President responsibilities when the President cannot be available
    3. Reports to the President
    4. Works closely with the President and other directors
    5. Participates closely with the President to develop and implement transition plans.
    6.Performs other responsibilities as assigned by the Board.

Prerequisite:  Must have one year experience on the executive board.

Secretary Position

  1. Is a member of the Board
    2. Maintains records of the board and ensures effective management of organization’s records
    3. Manages minutes of board meetings and general meetings
    4. Ensures minutes are distributed to members shortly after each meeting
    5.Is sufficiently familiar with legal documents (such as bylaws) to note applicability during meetings

Prerequisite: Must have been an active member in good standing for a minimum of two years

Treasurer Position

  1. Is a member of the Board
    2. Manages finances of the organization
    3. Administrates fiscal matters of the organization
    4. Provides annual budget to the board for members’ approval
    5. Ensures development and board review of financial policies and procedures

Prerequisite:  Must have one year experience on the executive board. Accounting and/or book-keeping background an asset.

Directors at Large  (3 positions)

  1. Regularly attends board meetings, general meetings and important related meetings.
    2. Makes serious commitment to participate actively in committee work.
    3. Volunteers for and willingly accepts assignments and completes them thoroughly and on time.
    4. Stays informed about committee matters, prepares themselves well for meetings, and reviews and comments on minutes and reports.
    5.Gets to know other committee members and builds a collegial working relationship that contributes to consensus.
    6. Is an active participant in the committee’s annual evaluation and planning efforts.
    7. Participates in fund raising for the organization.

Prerequisite:  Must have been an active member in good standing for a minimum of two years

The primary purpose of the Calgary Association of the Deaf is to protect and promote the rights, needs and concerns of Deaf Calgarians while endeavoring to improve the quality of life for Deaf people in general.

Please consider carefully and thoughtfully, whether you can commit to this two year term as it is a commitment not to be taken lightly and requires active involvement and regular attendance at all board and general meetings.
